Children's Ministries at First Church

Nursery - Infants and Toddlers

Our First Church nursery is open for infants and toddlers every Sunday morning from 8:15 - 12:15 and professional care is provided. We also offer nursery care for all of our special services such as Christmas Eve and other special events. 

Our Sunday school - 2 years through 6th grade

We offer graded Sunday school classes 10 a.m. Our curriculum includes Cokesbury Exploring Faith and Godly Play. We are incredibly blessed with our dedicated team of teachers, some who have taught here at First UMC for up to 10 years. They share their gifts of teaching and showing God’s love to our First Church children, and we are so grateful for all of them!

• Shrove Tuesday - Annual pancake supper celebration
• Families in Fellowship - Fun family day events   
• Walk Through Holy Week - Children's Palm Sunday Celebration
• Fall Festival - Annual festival with our community
• Advent Festival - Annual church family celebration to prepare for the Advent season
• End-of-the-year Sunday school splash party with water slides!

Children's Programs

• Children’s Drama Ministry - This is a ministry open to all children of our church and  community with opportunities to participate in plays and productions.
• Vacation Bible School - Every summer we offer a fun and exciting VBS program for our church and community. 
• Bible Retreats - Every year our 3^rd Grade class participates in a Bible Retreat where they learn the books of the Bible and how to use the Bible.  It is fun and creative, and our children always have a great time!   
• Children’s Choirs - Little Shepherd Choir for 4 yrs.-2^nd Grade; Godsingers for 3^rd - 6^th Grade. Marj Allbee, director of children’s choirs.
• Children’s Bible Study - We periodically offer children's Bible classes on Sunday mornings. 
• Scouting Ministries
• Elementary summer camping ministries

Children's Ministry Council

Our Children's Ministry Council keeps busy (and has fun) planning and leading our many exciting events and programs. Our mission statement is: "The Children's Ministry Council shall provide a Christian learning environment, promote relationships and a commitment to God and their faith, and encourage our children to live as faithful disciples in the world through the love of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit."
